Need A Review Of The Roomba Vacuum?

Here at Roomba review, we aim to give readers in depth product information and impartial reviews on the autonomous robotic vacuum-the iRobot Roomba. Throughout the site, you will be able to find links to well known retailers offering cut-price deals on various models of the Roomba vacuum.

The articles included give helpful tips and advice on setting up your Roomba, cleaning & maintenance, troubleshooting problems & buying the right model. Over the last few years, I have personally owned two Roomba’s, both of which have fascinated and impressed me.

I decided that such an innovative device deserved recognition and that potential buyers may need some information regarding the functionalities & capabilities of this product-hence the reason for setting up this site.

Roomba popularity & Models Available for Roomba Review

As of February 2011 iRobot had sold over 6 million robotic vacuums worldwide, making it the most popular and trusted brand of robotic vacuums on the market today. Three generations of the Roomba have seen the technology improved and the features and capabilities enhanced. With a first, second and third generation of Roombas which includes the newest 500/600 & 700 series thats a lot of Roomba reviews!   Roomba reviewAll devices are disc-shaped, and consist of a large contact-sensing bumper at the front half with an infrared sensor on the top.

The 3 generations of the Roomba all utilize a pair of brushes, rotating in opposite directions to pick up debris from the floor. Spinning side brushes grab dirt and dust from corners and edges,  making the all round clean accurate and thorough.

The roomba operates with a nickel hydride battery and must be recharged after each cleaning cycle.   Second and third generation Roombas are mainly supplied with a self-docking home base and take about three hours to charge, while some of the earlier models came with a standard twelve-hour charger.

To prevent the Roomba falling from stairs and drop-offs, devices are fitted with infrared “cliff sensors”. Third generation devices have dirt sensors, that allow them to identify dirty spots on your floors and spend more time cleaning them. Later models have also included a remote-control, to which many baffled customers found strange for a robotic device that works all by itself.

The remote controls main purpose is to guide the Roomba to dirty areas you detect on your floors, something we at Roomba review found very handy indeed.

Dirt and debris is stored in a dust bin simply named the “vacuum bin” which has been upgraded throughout generations. The bin can be simply removed and emptied straight into the trash. The newest “aerovac bin” directs suction airflow through the main brushes, helping to keep parts of the Roomba free from debris which may affect its working components.

Second and third generation models generally have three cleaning modes to choose from, “spot” mode cleans a small specific area, “max” mode allows the Roomba to use it’s inboard cleaning algorithm to circulate and clean a whole room or area of your home and “dock” mode ensures the device will find its way home to the docking station after cleaning to re-group! and re-charge.

Earlier models such as the Roomba 400 needed to be told the room size via three buttons (small, medium and large) Newer models such as the 770 no longer have or need this option. A bumper system has been designed to detect obstacles and protect furniture and appliances.

Third generation Roomba’s will detect objects from a distance and slow on approach, before navigating cleverly around.  The Roomba will spend as much time cleaning under beds, cabinets and other hard to reach places, as it will in other areas leaving a more thorough all round clean.

Although time and hard work is spared cleaning your floors, the device will need regular cleaning and maintenance.  Instructions and cleaning tools included will point you in the right direction, and tips and techniques on these topics have all been included on Roomba reviews.

New Innovations

The commitment shown by iRobot in developing new innovative products is clear to see with the recent launch of the iRobot  Scooba. The Scooba is a floor washing robot and is capable of washing, scrubbing and drying floors. It uses water and clorox Scooba cleaning solution to wash tile, linoleum and more. The iRobot Pool-cleaning robot has also been made available to consumers, this remarkably does what it says on the tin, cleaning your entire pool from floor to water line in 60-90 minutes.
